Conrad Makkah Jabal Omar: Confidence in MICE

Known for its opulence and hospitality excellence, the lovely Conrad Makkah Jabal Omar has reported a noticeable upswing in MICE business since its launch in June 2016.

The luxury hotel has witnessed heightened demand from pharmaceutical companies and government entities wishing to conduct their meetings, training and development programmes in Makkah during the weekends.

“There are several factors that contribute to the development of MICE tourism in Makkah, one of which is the growing supply of modern venues from new hotels that are opening in the market, equipped with the latest technology,” said Ismail Sirry, general manager, Conrad Makkah Jabal Omar.

“Other factors include the improving infrastructure, companies’ desire to hold their meetings and trainings in nearby locations, and continuous government support. Indeed, since our opening in June, we have seen very strong demand from both the public and private sector to utilise our meeting spaces for weekend meetings, as well as training and development initiatives. We expect this trend to continue growing throughout 2017, with more interest coming from energy companies, as well as banks.”

Conrad Makkah Jabal Omar is home to two contemporary theatre-style meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 100 guests each.

By the year 2020, Saudi Arabia aims to transform itself into a key destination for conferences and exhibitions in the Middle East, with $1.6 billion to be invested in its MICE tourism industry by 2019. Makkah in particular, which is traditionally known as a religious travel hub, is expected to become a new, popular MICE destination.

Development projects that are expected to facilitate the growth of the KSA’s MICE industry include the high-speed rail and metro projects, and new hotel development projects including Hilton Makkah Convention Hotel Jabal Omar (2017).
