An unforgettable British adventure at Goodwood

With Goodwood’s exclusive 72nd Members’ Meeting rapidly approaching, Jon Barnett, head of events marketing, Goodwood exclusively shares with MENA Luxury the reasons behind its popularity, as well as its allure to tourists from the MENA region.

“Goodwood now offers three major motor sport meetings within any calendar year, the Members Meeting, The Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival; importantly each one is unique in its own right.

“We have seen our events grow significantly over the years with the first Festival of Speed in 1993 attracting 20,000 people and last year we attracted 198,000 people, simply because these events represent a fantastic day out for the whole family regardless of your interest levels in motor sport.

“The atmosphere of that quantity of people, star drivers, the single largest collection of significant cars on the planet packed into four amazing days of action in the historic and beautiful grounds of Goodwood House, with great food and entertainment, represents one of the highlights of the UK summer social season.”

“Motor sport tends to bring generations together as an event like the Festival of Speed celebrates as much about the future as it does the past.

Goodwood Revival is very much a celebration of pre-1966 motor racing and indeed all things vintage, so it’s also a great hit with women as period fashion of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s is worn by most visitors who go to great lengths to choose their outfit for the weekend.

“Both the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival are attracting increasing international audiences – so, for example, with the  Formula 1 and rally fan-base growing in the Middle East, the Festival of Speed taking place from June 26-29, 2014, offers an excellent UK-based event in a beautiful part of the UK, just 1.5 hours from London.

“Typically, the Festival of Speed has all the major F1 teams present and unique to the Festival of Speed is the opportunity for fans to get closer to their star drivers than they would normally. Add to that a dedicated Forest Rally Stage, GAS-Goodwood Action Sports, a Supercar paddock and a motor show and the presence of all the major motor manufacturers on display, and you have the makings of an amazing weekend in a beautiful part of England.”

“It is possible to buy a weekend pass to an event like the Festival of Speed and still feel like you could have done with more time to see everything on offer.

“So, four years ago, we added an additional day, Thursday, making it a four-day event, including a motor show we have called the Moving Motor Show, so called because selected customers are invited to drive the famous 1.16 mile Goodwood Hill Climb as a test drive.

“Add to this the opportunity to experience 4WD, Rage Buggies, and quite simply the largest collection of cars on the planet set in the grounds of the Goodwood Estate, and we have the makings of an amazing customer experience."

Add to this Goodwood’s own hotel, two golf courses, motor circuit, a flying school of the highest standard and we have what is a very luxurious playground.
